Ned Jarrett's first legitimate pole position. He managed to draw first
on the grid twice in 1959 when no time trials were held.

This was the first NASCAR Cup race after the birth of Kyle Petty, the
green flag dropped on this one just three days after he entered this
world. Grandpa Lee Petty wins with father Richard Petty coming home
sixth. Kyle himself would later win his first Cup race here at Richmond
in 1986.
