The record-setting for the shortest NASCAR career was set in this race
by Bill Gazaway: 1 lap.

Upon checking the stats; I see that Paul Norris also only ran one event,
and this was also his only race. So this is a record Gazaway shares.

Actually, Rich Vogler has the shortest career. He qualified for a 1990
race at Pocono, but he died the night before the race. He was given a
40th place finish and a "Did Not Start", which means he completed zero
laps.

This race was the finale for the first season where races at paved
tracks outnumbered dirt events.

A total of 10 manufacturers raced in the 44 races in 1960, here is how
many races each showed up to.

The late season combination of Speedy Thompson and the Wood Brothers
proved fruitful as the pair won their first two races together.
Thompson's bid for three in a row here came up short as he had to settle
for fourth, four laps behind winner Bobby Johns.

This would be Johns' only win of 1960 and his only victory on a
superspeedway.

In 1960 points standings, Rex White would beat Richard Petty by a
whopping 3,936 points! It would completely shatter the record set by Lee
Petty in 1959, but still wouldn't come close to the all-time record.

Richard Petty was DQ'ed from a race that gave 4,000 to win, and then
lost the championship by 3,936. Now I don't know how fast he was that
day, but it's interesting to think about.

Richard and his father were originally scored fourth and fifth in the
1960 World 600 before they were disqualified for improper pitting
procedures. It cost Richard 3520 points not enough to make up the
deficit to Rex.
