Tim Flock's last top-10 finish in a full-length race. (He would finish
6th in a World 600 qualifier later in the year.)

This race wasn't originally on the schedule for 1961. The first one was
stopped by rain, and rather than finish it another day NASCAR just
scheduled another 500 lap race, this one.

The race after this one was the Rebel 300 at Darlington, normally the
only convertible race of the season in this era. When Bill France made
this event a late addition to the schedule, he made it open to both
convertible and hardtop bodied cars (a sweepstakes or combination race)
