Anonymous posted: 04.04.2011 - 4:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Someone overheard Ned Jarrett in the early 1960s telling a fellow driver that he felt in order to win the championship it was more important to start as many races in the season as possible than to win a bunch of races. Ironically, in 1961 defending champion Rex White started more races, won more races, had more top 5s and top 10s, more poles, completed more laps, led more laps, earned more money, had a better average start AND average finish, finished more races, completed more miles, and finished on the lead lap more than Ned Jarrett and still lost the championship to him by over 800 points. 3.
