A brash young kid named David Pearson tried to take the lead from fourth place in turn 4 on the first lap and caused a huge crash. One car was so stuck on the inside guardrail that they turned a wrecker over trying to get it unstuck. I think this was Lorenzen's first major win in NASCAR, he went on to win a lot of races at Atlanta until his first retirement. 2. So NASCAR jumped to the speedway's aid. 3. The truck came to stop on its door, but driver Robert Higgenbottom was fine. 4.
