The usual car owner for the No. 28 in the Holman-Moody stable was Ralph Moody. In addition, Ms. Reynolds was the entrant of the Ferrari GTO that Pedro Rodriguez drove to victory in the 1963 Daytona Continental. 2. The cars were not hardtops with the roof cut off, like some entries in that race, they were built from scratch as Starliner convertibles. For this race, they were outfitted with "Starlift" roofs, based on the more aerodynamic 1960-61 Ford Starliner model. The roof was announced an option available to the public a few weeks prior to the Atlanta race, but was really only intended to gain an advantage in NASCAR on the superspeedways, where to boxy roofline on the mass produced 1962 Ford hardtops was costing them an estimated 3 mph. NASCAR was not fooled by the stunt. After some debate, their decision was to allow the cars to run in this configuration for one race only, then ban them from further competition. The compromise allowed fans to see stars Fred Lorenzen (who went on to win this race) and teammate Nelson Stacy (an early race DNF) race this weekend. 9. Originally, David Pearson had the pole, but the original qualifying results were scrapped and a new qualifying session was held in June. 10. He was unable to return for the makeup date in June; as a USAC member, he was forbidden to race with NASCAR due to a scheduling conflict with the Indy Car race in Milwaukee, which he won. 11. Fielden's books have Baker as 24th 12.
