according to a newspaper account of the race, johnson turned the car
over in practice, yet survived to take the pole and race.

The caution came out for Sammy Fogle on lap 41. There was also a caution
on lap 2 when Jack Smith spun and crashed, with Jim Pardue and Paschal
also crashing avoiding him.
