Ned Jarrett and Richard Petty, who were Weatherly's main full-time opponents that season, completely dominated this race en route to a 1-2 finish and over 100 laps led apiece. Legendary Modified driver Ray Hendrick collected his 1st Grand National top five and top ten finish in this race. Jim Paschal and Richard Petty exchanged car numbers for this race. Paschal had a gift-wrapped top five finish for this race given the small field size and short list of competitive cars, but wound up finishing 42 laps down in 14th place, the last finishing car in the race. 3. simonracer posted: 08.09.2014 - 1:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Joe Weatherly skipped this race to run a 250-mile NASCAR Pacific Coast race at Riverside. Darel Dieringer also ran at that event which was won by Roger Penske. 4. It would have been early 60's... and he ONLY raced it at Southside Speedway. I don't know of any existing picture. MY mother said she HAD one,..but had no idea where it may have ended up. Anyone that can help. please contact my wife, at hendrickjoetta@aol.com Appreciate any leads. 5. toomuchcountry posted: 05.18.2016 - 5:03 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Petty had to slow considerably as the race near the end because of a tire issue. With 5 to go, the tire finally blew. But King continued, and he finished on 3 tires and an empty rim. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
