Kyle posted: 06.25.2020 - 8:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bob Cooper in his No. 02 Pontiac should be added in the list of DNQs, since he was in the Qualifier race and finished 12th due to a crash (only the top 10 of the qualifier race made the field), Reb Wickersham who finished 11th (ahead of Cooper) in the qualifying race also DNQed...Sources of the results of the qualifying race: https://www.racing-reference.info/race/1963-03/X and http://www.ultimateracinghistory.com/race.php?raceid=21326 however Cooper drove the No. 60 Pontiac in the race, and he didn't got a provisional since he is scored as starting 27th (and the qualifying race only determined the positions 35-44), all drivers of the top 10 in qualifying race made the field, so Cooper didn't buy a ride of them, so probably he replaced other driver who made the field in No. 60... so I guess who? Anyone have any information about that deal? 9. Ford Galaxie and according to Racing Reference and what other stats pages I've found on the Earnhardt racing family this is the only race Ralph drove a # 54 car so why does it have no sponsor listed??? 10. I don't know if this helps any but I looked the race up on Wikipedia and it has Doug Cooper not Bob Cooper in that car. 11. possum posted: 08.15.2020 - 12:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @10 - Bob Cooper was car owner for both the #60 and #02. Doug Cooper does not show in any races before Oct 1963 (in Bob's #60). A likely explanation is Bob entered both cars, one for himself and one for Doug, and when he failed to qualify the #02 he replaced his brother, on the theory he had a better chance of making some money than a guy in his first race. 12. Dennis posted: 08.15.2020 - 4:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @11 I know Wikipedia may not be the best place for info but why did they have Doug instead of Bob in this race because I noticed as well Doug was listed in the # 60 from the 64 Daytona Qualifiers and 500 on??? 13. possum posted: 08.16.2020 - 12:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @12 - well, if my assumption is correct that Bob entered the #60 for Doug, then likely whoever wrote the Wikipedia article is looking at a program or news article that has the entry list, not the starting lineup. Doug ran for ROTY in 1964, driving Bob's #60 (Bob himself used #61 that year). 14. Cars were impounded and protected by armed personnel for the entire week until the race could start. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
