He only suffered a cut on his nose. 6. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 06.17.2016 - 1:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Note: Fireball Roberts was running in 3rd place when he was forced out of the race. He folded as a result of Allen's spectacular crash/ Pieces from the guardrail were strewn across the track and Roberts' Ford ran over a section. It tore out the undercarriage, spilling oil over the course. Roberts brought the car slowly to the pits and was through. Note: Junior Johnson had made a quick pit stop with tire changes at 200 laps and said that 76 laps later as he got the checkered flag he still had 'about a gallon and a half' of gas left. He said that he eased off to about 137 mph to make sure his car would finish until the front runners headed to make pit stops. The he pushed his Chevrolet up to about 139 mph and led through the final 25 laps. 7. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 07.22.2016 - 11:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Update: caution, attendance and one manufacturer error. 8. The day before the race was supposed to run there was a short "Race of Champions" for former Atlanta winners won by Rex White. 9. Back then they waited beside the car, name was announced, they waved and climbed in. Front to back. I saw the car that jumped the rail, color similar to the 22, scary. At the finish, a car flattened the "Pure" sign at pit road entrance. Revenuers later discovered moonshine still under one of the banked turns. I was 12. First paved track race for me. 10. Marty Robbins did not run in this race, the incident with the Pure Oil sign happened two years later and the still was found at Middle Georgia,Raceway. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
