I used the issues of Southern Motorsports Journal for this, as well as Southern Motoracing when it began publishing in August 1964. Scoring was done using a "base" number, that is the 25th position was the base since anyone finishing lower than 25th recieved the same number of points as 25th poisition. During the 1964 season, a total of 16 different points schemes were used. Concord was awarded points on the "16" scale, first being 400 points, dropping 16 points a position until 16 points for 25th position. If interested, the points scheme for each 1964 GN event can be provided. 3. SK posted: 12.27.2007 - 8:29 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The last Grand National race in which Joe Weatherly led. 4. This was Bolton's only racce of the 1964 season but he'd return for three races in the 1966 season 5. The poor result and the impending change to a later model year eligibility ( once January 1964 hit, only 62-64 model years could run) might have hastened the end of his big league career . 8. The first Southern 500 winning owner went out before his driver Jimmy Massey could complete a lap. Ironically, as post 4 pointed out, this would also be Massey's last race as a driver. 10. Joe almost pulled this one off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
