Petty ran out of gas on the back stretch and had to coast all the way back to the finish line. Meanwhile Isaac and Pardue were battling side by side for second. They came up on Ralph Earnhardt's lapped car entering the tri-oval, split around him and came up on Petty who was coasting at around 30 mph on the apron. The three crossed the finish line side-by-side, all thinking they had won. 4 hours later, television footage showed Issac won but it took another day to decide who finished second. 5. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 11.26.2015 - 6:08 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Note: Richard Petty had a 27 seconds lead with one lap to go but ran out of fuel from the backstretch to the finish line. 6. I'm that would have been exciting to watch. 8. thecautionlightnews posted: 09.23.2020 - 11:31 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Jo Schlesser becomes the first French driver to race in NASCAR. He was known for his work with Guy Ligier, and after his death in a crash at the 1968 French Grand Prix, Ligier decided to name all of his cars with the prefix JS. No French person has won a race in NASCAR, but one day, someone like Simon Pagenaud could do that ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
