"Freeze pl" apparently means frozen plug.

A qualifying race was held on Saturday, March 21 over 20 laps. Results
here (on page 28):

The caution was out for 41 laps after Larry Thomas crashed through the
fence at turn one, but he escaped injury.

Freeze pl means freeze plug. The engine must have been leaking water.

According to farmersalmanac.com, the ambient high temperature for this
race got all the way up to 42 degrees.

I may be wrong but I do believe Lorenzens 494 laps led is a record for s
single race in NASCAR Cup Series

before.
