Fittingly, his final NASCAR race was at Indianapolis. 3. Harvick29 posted: 02.16.2008 - 1:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A.J. He went sideways on the outside of turn 4, slammed the inside wall broadside thankfully on the rightside of the car. He would probably have been killed if it had hit on the other side. 6. Two racing champions and legends going at it in an unlikely and spontaneous scenario after the king dominated most of the race. 13. Foyt became the first man to win at Indianapolis and Daytona in the same year. It also gave Ray Nichels' team a 1-2 finish. 14. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 07.06.2016 - 6:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Note: Driver standings after this race (top20): 1) Richard Petty = 26114 points 2) Ned Jarrett = 20956 3) Billy Wade = 20936 4) David Pearson = 19658 5) Marvin Panch = 18532 6) Jim Paschal = 17960 7) Jimmy Pardue = 17810 8) Curtis Crider = 15948 9) Buck Baker = 13878 10) Darel Dieringer = 13418 11) Wendell Scott = 13346 12) Larry Thomas = 12970 13) Fred Lorenzen = 12598 14) Junior Johnson = 12234 15) Tiny Lund = 11516 16) Paul Goldsmith = 10324 17) Lee Roy Yarbrough = 10168 18) Fireball Roberts = 9900 19) Bobby Isaac = 9860 20) Larry Frank = 9804 15. rob posted: 08.17.2016 - 10:48 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Per a video of this race, Reb Wickersham spun on the first lap and very nearly took out Foyt. 16. The very next day there were two qualifying races of 20 laps apiece to determine the starting order for the Firecracker 400. Lorenzen got involved in a terrifying wreck of his own that nearly tore off the left side of his car. Lorenzen staggered out of the car and collapsed, bleeding profusely with a severed artery in his hand. Surgeons were able to control the bleeding and spare his life, but Fred was badly shaken, both by the loss of his teammate and friend and his own close call." 20.
