The Cup series returns to Roanoke's Starkey Speedway after a one-year
layoff but this proved to be the series' final race here before the
track was shuttered in 1966. Junior Johnson backs up his victory at
Bowman Gray with a second-straight win as he turned in a dominant run,
passing the polesitting Wood in the opening laps and never looked back
en route to becoming the only driver to win more than one Cup race on
this quarter-mile.

Chuck Huckabee's final Cup start sees his Mercury go out in the opening
laps with brake issues.
