Final start for Jimmy Pardue. Pardue was killed two days later during a
tire test at Daytona.

Also the final start for Cotton Owens, finishing a very strong 2nd in
perhaps the strongest ever for a driver making their last start. Owens
ran only two races in his final season, finishing no worse 2nd! He won
earilier in the year at Richmond.

The strong run in his last race had to lift Cotton's spirits a little
bit, his other car driven by David Pearson dominated the race before
dropping out with a fan belt problem.

Also the last start for North Carolina racer Steve Young, who goes out
with his only top-10 in 7th

It was actually at Charlotte. Billy Wade died in a January 1965 tire
test at Daytona. Maybe you got the two confused.

Only career top ten for Major Melton. Hewas the first Grand National
driver that I ever met.
