NASCAR banned the Hemi .... track owners were squawking do to small crowds & boycott... the last part of the season the hemi's were again permitted and the fans came back... Petty & Pearson won most of the remaining races. NASCAR also banned the hemi in 1957 after they won most of the 56 races. 4. hyltonfan08 posted: 01.23.2009 - 4:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsors: 24-Sam McQuagg: Lansdale Ford 27-Junior Johnson: Holly Farms 28-Fred Lorenzen: LaFayette 5. rob posted: 12.27.2010 - 7:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) lorenzen and panch collided while battling for the lead as rain began. panch spun out while lorenzen continued with a badly crumpled front fender. lorenzen stayed on the track as the caution came out. the race was red flagged and lorenzen was declared the winner when officials ruled that the race couldn't be continued. 6.
