Holman Moody and Bondy Long had the most support from Ford than anyone in this field, and since Richard Petty didn't run with his Plymouth support and Hutcherson retired with differential problems, Ned had the race won. Mechanical difficulties and faulty tires were also a reason for cars being many laps down back in the day. 3. I forgot that 1965 was the year that Plymouth went on strike against Nascar. Plymouth and Petty went drag racing in 1965, but returned after having a horrific crash where Petty's car sailed into the grandstands, killing a young boy. 4. That will never be done again. 8. Considering that the #55 car was a Ford in every other race it ran in 1965, I'd say they might have been right. 10. Geoff Bodine was dominating that race and Bob Jenkins asked Ned and Benny if they ever had a race where they dominated to the point where it felt like nothing could go wrong and Ned brought this race up immediately. 12. This was the only race he was incorrectly recorded as driving a Ford. 14. Mile501 posted: 11.27.2020 - 7:00 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) @7 - "22 laps. That will never be done again." It was actually done again exactly 3 months later, when Ned Jarrett won by 22 laps at another short track race. However, it hasn't happened since and clearly won't happen in present-day NASCAR. 15. With just a few independents representing Dodge and Plymouth, the factory Ford teams dominated. If attrition took out a few of the Ford's that were racing each other, things could out of hand with runaway winners ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
