to go. It finally blew four laps short of the finish.

Harvey Jones, who finished fifth, was a local ringer. He is still
considered a legend around here and he kept racing into his 70's and 80's.

I was there to see Cale win his first Cup race. The race got rained out
on Saturday night, so we came back on Sunday for the race.

Cale Yarborough's breakthrough win came in the Grand National tour's
final visit to Georgia's Valdosta 75 Speedway. The track closed a year
after this race.

This is the only race win to date for the #06 in NASCAR Cup Series history.

Dick Hutcherson started on the pole and destroyed the field for 80% of
the race until he broke down. Then G.C. Spencer inherited the lead but
blew a motor, handing the legendary Cale Yarborough his first NASCAR
victory even though he would only lead the last 18 laps.

Those days were crazy. They raced at a half mile dirt track, then a week
later raced at Daytona.
