The King probably didn't attempt to qualify, so he hired LeeRoy. I don't know why Yarbrough would be hired on a Dirt track... 3. rob posted: 01.23.2013 - 1:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) richard had a previous drag racing commitment. this race came very soon after the boycott was lifted on the hemi=powered short wheelbase chrysler products on tracks of one mile and under. 4. gearhead15 posted: 04.07.2013 - 3:05 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Lee Roy was an excellent dirt track racer, he won two races during '64 on dirt in a car that had been purchased from the Pettys. I'm sure he was viewed as the best driver available for this race, I have no idea why someone would think Lee Roy wasn't a good dirt track racer. 5. Darel Dieringer looked like he had this race in the bag, only to get a flat tire and give up the race lead to David Pearson when he was forced to pit with just 20 laps to go. Tiny Lund and LeeRoy Yarbrough had unusual exits in this race - they both crashed into lightpoles in the infield while attempting to leave a very muddy pit road. Yarbrough, notably, was making an unexpected start in the #43 usually reserved for Richard Petty, of course. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
