Curtis Turner had been banned from NASCAR in 1961 for trying to organize
a driver's union. He was reinstated late in 1965, and this was the only
race he would win after returning.

This was the 1st race for Rockingham and the 1st win for Turner in a
long time. Factory Chryler teams were back on the Speedways for the 1st
time since the 64 season.

Could somebody explain to me how Junior Johnson led fourteen more laps
when his engine blew up two hundred laps earlier?

Petty got wrecked by Pearson in this race, then took over as a relief
driver for Jim Paschal. Junior Johnson dominated the beginning of the
race until he went three wide on the outside with Turner and Isaac and
slapped the wall hard.

cale yarborough actually led the laps credited to johnson.
