Curtis Turner passed Dan Gurney for the lead on lap 38 by going straight
in the esses and flying over a ditch and in front of Gurney. Gurney
remarked that it was the first time anyone had ever passed him airborne.
Turner remained in the lead or in second place for the next 34 laps
until he had to pit to fix the gas cap that had come off as a result of
that little stunt. He wound up 4th, a couple of laps down, but with yet
another memorable tale to tell.

WD - Fred Lorenzen - #28 - Holman Moody - '66 Ford

Lorenzen flipped his car in Tuesday practice and had to withdraw.
