The only career victory for Earl Balmer from Indiana. Despite this win
in his first start in Ray Fox's #3 Dodge, he only drove the car in the
actual Daytona 500 after this and never drove for Fox again

Jim Malloy, Indy Car driver made his only NASCAR GN start. Malloy was
killed at Indy in 1972.

earl was a tough race car driver on the arca circuit also back in the
day. he raced only 32 times in grand national events on tracks more than
a mile. could have probably won 20 or more with 400 starts given the
chance.

for real ? bunkie blackburn actually led in that big old independent
impala against all the factory iron. anyone know if it was under green
or under the one caution when other top cars were pitting ?

^Bunkie was a tough son of a biscuit who usually ran well on the big
tracks, and could very well have led in this fluky race.

Can't find any video from this race. The 1966 Daytona 500 film shows
scenes from the Saturday Permatex 300 race as the highlights from the
qualifying races.
