Of course, there were no cautions, helping the record. 2) Darel Dieringer (81.699) was leading the race until he blew an engine during the 34th lap. Apparently he was able to continue on and was in third at the time he left the race with engine troubles, completing 135 laps. From what I can gather an educated guess of how the led laps may have gone.... Richard Petty 1-5 Darel Dieringer 6-34 Petty 35-??? Tom Pistone 12 laps Petty ???-200 It's possible Pistone led his 12 laps in separate times, but based on what I've read about the race, that's probably unlikely. 2. What race in 1964 are you referring to ? Panch won one race on a half mile track at a speed of over 84 miles an hour. It was at the Asheville -Weaverville Speedway. 5. leon Calhoun posted: 07.04.2017 - 7:17 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) I was at this race and after the race Richard sat on the hood of his car and autographed everything the fans brought to him. He stayed and talked to the fans until they left. A great King of the sport. 6.
