This was an independent-only race.

1) Darel Dieringer was entering a Ford owned by Reid Shaw, who was
entering only his fourth race since his former driver Buren Skeen was
killed in the 1965 Southern 500 at Darlington. He didn't even get the
ride until the night before the event.
2) It was Dieringer's first dirt-track win.

This was the second NASCAR cup victory for a car #0, as of 2014 it had
not won again.

These old races are just crazy. The guy who finished fifth was twenty
laps behind.
