Petty won the pole but I believe he blew the engine on the pace lap.... just curious as to why he was not listed in a starting position... he was definately running on the first pace lap... 2. nascarman posted: 06.18.2008 - 4:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Back then if you didn't get the green flag you wouldn'd be credited with starting. 3. James Hylton took the lead for six laps as Pearson made his first pit stop, but Pearson retakes the lead during the 23rd lap and cruises to an easy win. 9. nascar_vd / racing-reference posted: 11.25.2013 - 2:02 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Pole speed = Qualifier race winner 10. A 1964 Ford number 22, the same combination that Fireball Roberts was mortally injured in. 12. This win at Bridgehampton was his only triumph when the roads got twisty that didn't come at Riverside in the 1970s. 13. Now this wouldn't be uncommon by any means at the time, but it was still an interesting read & the sequencing makes it better. Starting @30 (this one), Allison's car was set up where every time he turned right, he starved the car for oil - he actually killed x3 engines this way. Allison left the race after 11 laps simply because he'd already used up all his parts prior. The next day, Allison went to a local Chevy dealer & bought a used engine for $50 that had the parts he needed, then promptly went and won his 1st career race. Race 32 & on comes Fonda - more specifically, JT PUTNEY @ Fonda. Tiny Lund is the one primarily remembered seeing as he decked Putney, but Allison too took a shot in that one, a nasty shot at that. This wreck caused massive damage to his car, mechanical and body-wise, so Allison enlisted the help of a cousin living in NJ who assured Allison not to worry & take a well deserved day off. Race 33 comes: the car's well... there. Even in it's repaired state it's a Frankenstein of a ride, it still looks like it was involved in a wreck. Rough as the body might've been, Allison said it drove smooth, & smoothly into victory lane it drove. All told, this took place across x4 RACES & x6 DAYS. Quite the sequence for an Alabama rookie with a new owner running up North. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
