Richard Petty won the pole and led all 400 laps of the Nashville 400 -- for the second time in three years! But while in '64 Petty had Jim Paschal to contend with right to the end, this event saw King Richard lap the field five times over. Simply remarkable. 3. Coo Coo Marlin was the big favorite at Nashville on the weekends as was Marty Robins. The public announcer at Nashville would always introduce him as "Columbia recording star, Marty Robins." I saw Marty get involved in a spectacular fiery crash one Saturday night that involved several cars in turns one and two. After the wreckage was cleared, Coo Coo eventually won in his orange '62 Chevy. At Nashville they were pretty liberal about what makes and years could compete in the feature races (not the Grand National races). There was even a fairly competetive '59 Studebaker! 5. numbah10hatah posted: 01.14.2014 - 12:46 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Coo Coo Marlin's debut. 6. The county singer fittingly hit the track here at Nashville but all the rest of his Cup starts would be on superspeedway ovals. 11.
