This was the race that put Bobby Allison on the map. He won 3 races in
1966, but this was definitely his best race, as he competed with over a
dozen factory cars, driving his "Junkyard" Chevelle. Allison went on to
lead the most laps and battle for the lead with Fred Lorenzon before his
engine expired with 6 laps to go. As he drove down the pit road, he
waved his hand out the window with a smile on his face, because he let
everyone know that Bobby Allison was here to stay.

Fred was disqualified for a couple day because another team protested
that his fuel tank was too big. NASCAR ended up giving him back the win
later in the week.

Actually scratch that, it seems they did write it as GTX Plymouth
several times that year.

Note: Bobby Isaac drove the #99 in qualifying but Paul Goldsmith drove
the car in the race.

If I'm not mistaken, this was the race where Lorenzen's team was caught
with an illegal 23 gallon fuel tank, with the maximum being 22 gallon.
The officials just said the team had to replace it. So, the team used a
28 gallon tank instead, and won the race
