Richard Petty wins from the pole as the Cup series makes its annual stop
at New York's Fonda Speedway on the banks of the Mohawk River. This was
the last Cup race here on dirt before the track was paved for 1968...not
that the new surface stopped Richard Petty from winning again. J.T.
Putney's race was thankfully less eventful than his 1966 run here as he
came home sixth.
