The car was destroyed and he was forced to withdraw. The speeds shown are an average for a 4-lap qualfiying run. The first 37 spots in the field were set via qualifying. The final 7 spots were filled by the top 7 finishers in a 20 lap qualifying race . F1 champion Jackie Stewart declined Cotton Owens' invitation to drive his car, although Stewart did receive an official NASCAR license and was on the entry list for this race. 7.
