Frank Warren had a vicious crash in this race, the front end of the car
was nearly torn off.

It was a very hot day in Rockingham. It was in the upper 90s, as was the
humidity, and the track temperature was in the 140s. Every top contender
had a problem except Donnie Allison. Most of Darel Dieringer's laps led
were actually by Richard Petty, who took over the #22 after the #43 blew
an engine. Petty blew the engine in Dieringer's car as well.

The picture of Donnie Allison's car in the September 1968 issue of Stock
Car Racing shows 396 painted on the hood, showing that Donnie was taking
advantage of the weight break allowed when using the smaller engine.

This race was scheduled to run on the 10th of March. It was postponed to
the 16th of June due to rain. David Pearson had originally set the pole
at a speed of 119.402 mph.

The chassis of the Brickhouse car was reportedly one that Richard Petty
used in his record breaking 1967 season.
