It was in the upper 90s, as was the humidity, and the track temperature was in the 140s. Every top contender had a problem except Donnie Allison. Most of Darel Dieringer's laps led were actually by Richard Petty, who took over the #22 after the #43 blew an engine. Petty blew the engine in Dieringer's car as well. 7.
