"The incident took place July 7 at Islip, N.Y. after Allison won the 60-mile feature on the fifth-mile asphalt track. According to reports, Maurice Petty knocked Allison down twice, breaking up an autograph session. Lin Kuchler, NASCAR executive vice president, was there. He investigated and levied a fine of $250 against Maurice Petty and $100 on Dale Inman, who was charged with pushing Allison toward Maurice when Allison attempted to escape the attack." According to the article, NASCAR talked Allison out of reporting the incident to the local police. The incident may have been related to an incident during the race, where Petty and Allison made contact when Allison was attempting to get around Bobby Isaac. "I didn't cause Richard's accident at Islip," Allison is quoted in the article. "He was coming to lap me, but I was running second and trying to get around Bobby Isaac. I was in the outside groove and as soon as I got around Isaac I was going to pull over and let Richard go. But he hit me from behind and caved in his fender." ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
