Richard Petty switched to Ford products after this race. Petty asked
Chrysler execs to put him in Dodge machinery, which was aerodynamically
superior to the Plymouths that The King was running at the time.
Chrysler execs wanted to keep Petty in the Plymouth nameplate purely for
marketing reasons, so Petty quit the Chrysler camp entirely and switched
to Ford.

First of 8 cup starts for Lee Gordon, Cecil's brother. Lee is retired
and doing well in Mills River N.C.

Last race for Tom Friedkin and he won the race with Allison! What a way
to end his participation on NASCAR...

The last time that a Cup race was part of a Cup season for a different
year (it's held in 1968 but part of the 1969 championship)
