Off hand that means three drivers that ran in NASCAR drivers ran it. Frasson would still be the only NASCAR regular but Satullo ran it and all-around racing legend and 5-time winner in Cup Dan Gurney won it in 1971. 9. Pictures exist, it appears to be a car leftover from Rossi's 1968 campaign with Darel Dieringer as driver. Allison did not drive a Dodge for Rossi until the Daytona Speedweeks events later the same month. 17. simonracer posted: 10.23.2014 - 3:25 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Being a West Coast race, there were a pile of one-off drivers in this race. Guy Jones & Dave James ran their last races here. Ralph Arnold, Robert Link, Wendell Parnell & Marvin Slojin ran their only ever race here. Bob England, Robert Hale, Roger McCluskey & Ray Johnstone ran their first race here. 18. Paul posted: 10.24.2014 - 8:17 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sponsors: #22 Bobby Allison - So. This was the first time Petty won a race in anything other than a Plymouth and the first time he ran a Cup race in anything but a Plymouth since he switched to the Mopar brand from Oldsmobile near the end of 1959. Petty defected to the FoMoCo lineup for 1969 when he asked Chrysler if he could race the slick new Dodge Daytona in speedway races, since he believed the standard Plymouth Road Runner would be uncompetitive against it and the Ford/Mercury entries, but was not allowed to do so because the company only wanted him to race Plymouths. The King didn't like the decision so he left. Petty raced Plymouths in the first two races of the 1969, since they took place in 1968 and he was still under contract to Mopar until the end of the year, then jumped into a Ford starting with this race for the rest of the season. Plymouth saw the error of their ways and brought Petty back with the Superbird in 1970. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
