He was protecting his car for the main event. 6. possum posted: 06.27.2019 - 9:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) To expand on @5's answer, in that era there was no rule requiring the front row cars to compete in their qualifier, so it was normal to just make a token appearance and then park it (today there is a rule, but of course today the pole sitter has a backup car on the hauler and two more in shop, so if he wrecks it's no big deal). 7. Furthermore, if you start in a backup car, you are at the back of the field, such as Schrader in the 1990 race. You might lose out on a handful of points, but that's it. I'd like to see your source and if I'm proven wrong, I'll gladly own it. 8. The team probably entered them to get whatever they paid out for last. He completed three of the four duels he ran in with the team. The other was a DNF after running 12 laps. I don't think that was an intentional S&P. They probably didn't want to chance wrecking the car. 9. Possibly it was a response to Labonte not running the 1998 qualifier. Not having the rule book to hand (and it not being on-line to go look) I can't say for sure. It's probably worth pointing out that from 1972 onwards the qualifiers did not pay points, so all that was lost by sitting them out was the relatively small prize money. 11. thecautionlightnews posted: 09.23.2020 - 11:32 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) first race for Sports Car Legend Vic Elford in NASCAR 12. This put nearly all the Ford heavy hitters into this first 125. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
