Allison and his #22 Dodge took the lead in the closing laps when the motor began going south on David Pearson's #17 Ford, Bobby would have a clear route to victory lane as Pearson's day ended behind the wall with a blown engine less than 3 miles from the end of the race. 3. Episode 307: In 1969, there was no escape tunnel for traffic to enter/exit the infield meaning if you crashed out early, you were forced to sit and watch rest of the race. In this race Bobby Isaac was putting a whooping on the field when with approximately 50 laps to go, the radiator hose busted resulting in him dropping out of the race. Without saying anything to his crew, Isaac sneaked off toward turn 2, with his helmet in his hand. Waited for a gap in the traffic under green flag conditions, ran across the track, hopped over the wall to get to his car in the parking lot and drove home. Wouldn't that be something to see? I'm sure there is no footage of this but if anyone out there has it, please let us know ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
