The King reigns again in the Music City as the Cup series' only visit to
Nashville this season sees the royal racer in the Petty Blue #43 Torino
dominate the race. Richard Petty won the pole and led all but two laps
en route to his sixth Nashville win in the series' last seven races
here. This was career win #98 for Petty as he closed in his historic
100th victory that summer.

This was the last Cup race at Nashville on the half-mile configuration
this track had featured throughout its NASCAR days to this point. The
track would be rebuilt with higher banks and a longer 0.596-mile layout
during the 1969-1970 offseason before the Cup series' return the
following summer.
