The only non-Charlotte 600 mile race. It was called just past halfway
because of rain.

First Ford win at MIS in the second ever NASCAR event at the track.
Cale's #21 Wood Bothers Mercury won the previous race. Oddly, the next
Ford win would be fifteen years in the future when Bill Elliott won the
June 1984 race. There were lots of wins by Mercury though in the 1970's.

The three laps Friday Hassler led in this race were the only laps a GM
car led all year.
