After sliding in his own oil, Tab was hit in the drivers side of his car by Bill Seifert, who was said the be going as fast as 190 mph. Not to fault Bill Seifert, because there was smoke everywhere and he too was sliding in the oil, but it was an extremely violent impact. Tab died instantly of a broken neck and spine and likely had other serious injuries as well. The left front fender and especially the drivers door of the #78 were caved in 2 feet or more. The steering wheel was pushed into the center of the car. One might argue with todays safety equipment the crash wouldn't have been fatal, but there still would have been serious injuries sustained, if not worse. 10.
