I think it was Bobby who rented the Jabe Thomas car.

Donnie Allison's win here was both his first of two triumphs in 1970 and
his only Cup win on a short track.

Donnie won three times in 70, adding the World 600 and Firecracker 400
to his resume.

Amazingly, Cale Yarborough had the race in hand before blowing up with
44 laps to go and still finished third!

Always glad to see the qualifying results for a race. In this one there
was over a second between first and 13th. Can you imagine how much
howling there would be about that today?

I'm almost positive that Cale drove a 69 Mercury.

Bobby Watson makes his only Grand National start but goes out in the
opening laps with a mechanical issue. He'd later run a few races in the
Grand National East series in 1973.

Bobby Allison's #22 Plymouth was rented from Don Robertson (Jabe
Thomas's car owner). Robertson rented his second car to whomever needed
a ride and had the money. The car was also rented to James Hylton
(Daytona), Wendell Scott (after his Ford Torino was totaled), and
Richard Petty for the dirt track race at Raleigh (Sept.30, 1970).

For Bristol, the sponsor was "Star City Body Shop", the standard sponsor
for that team. Picture:

This was Donnie Allison's third career win and just like the previous
two it came with his older brother Bobby Allison finishing second. The
odd streak would end about a month and a half later when Donnie won the
World 600 after Bobby fell out of that race early on.
