Just thought I'd point this out, I found it to be quite interesting. 2. Darrell posted: 10.26.2005 - 10:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Morgan Shepherd's first start. 3. They didn't have provisionals back then. 6. David posted: 08.31.2008 - 12:32 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Petty's short track car was wrecked at Darlington. The wreck caused him to miss several races and put him out of the championship hunt. He had returned to the track the week before but when the Hickory race rolled around the Petty garage hadn't gotten that short track car repaired yet, so Richard sat the race out. 7. 18fan posted: 12.08.2008 - 12:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) David, I may be wrong on this, but I thought Petty missed those races because of injuries he suffered in the Darlington crash 8. MarkM posted: 12.09.2015 - 2:08 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @ 18fan: Initially that's why he missed some races, but he had healed up by then, (he won the 500 miler at Riverside the week before in fact, in a Superbird), & David is correct. I was at this race & met Richard there for the first time in fact. He was there as a spectator & he told me that very thing then. The very next week he had a new short track car finished & he won at Kingsport TN. 11. nascar_vd / racing-reference.info posted: 07.07.2016 - 12:20 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Note: Driver standings after this race (top20): 1) Bobby Isaac = 1756 points 2) James Hylton = 1743 3) Bobby Allison = 1580 4) Jabe Thomas = 1462 5) Neil Castles = 1446 6) Dave Marcis = 1411 7) Elmo Langley = 1359 8) Richard Petty = 1309 9) Benny Parsons = 1268 10) Dick Brooks = 1211 11) Frank Warren = 1171 12) Wendell Scott = 1098 13) Cecil Gordon = 1007 14) Pete Hamilton = 1000 15) Bill Seifert = 911 16) Henley Gray = 910 17) John Sears = 865 18) Ben Arnold = 787 19) Bill Champion = 782 20) David Pearson = 781 Manufactuer standings: 1) Dodge = 118 points 2) Plymouth = 114 3) Ford = 99 4) Mercury = 44 5) Chevrolet = 4 6) Buick = 1 12. _Pale_Writer_ posted: 07.15.2016 - 3:50 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) The first Cup race I ever attended. The sponsor on Morgan Shepherd's car that night was Everett Chevrolet. They also sponsored his LMS mount back then. 13. And if I remember correctly it had a three-speed transmission in it. I think Allison's regular No. 22 short track car was damaged in a highway accident en route to the race track. 15. LandofLogic posted: 08.24.2020 - 11:02 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This is another example of Allison most likely not running the Coca Cola scheme. Since the poster above said it was the Bobby Watson car, he most likely ran it in those same colors as he would not have time to paint it to his current scheme. Can't prove it, but I doubt he did. 16. RegMartin posted: 11.06.2020 - 1:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #14 Were you at the race by any chance, or did you just hear about it through the grape vine? It's interesting because it says that Neil Castles entered the 88 car, so I wonder if he bought it from Ranier. Thanks for shedding some light on this for us though! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
