The 1st big time race that I had ever been to. I was 7 years old, been
loving it ever sence. We lived in Huntington W.Va..My father would take
me to Protorville Ohio Riverside Speedway Firday nignt dirt track racing
& the next week to Ona W.Va. Saturday night for asphalt racing.

This was the Grand National tour's first stop at West Virginia's
International Raceway Park in six years. While more than half a decade
had passed the race result turned out to be the same as King Richard
Petty and Petty Blue #43 Plymouth won again

Young gun Dave Marcis didn't enter his self-owned #30 Dodge in this race
and instead ran a second Ford as teammate to Cecil Gordon. The pairing
proved to be a good one as Marcis brought his #97 Torino home fifth
while Flash took sixth place himself in his usual #24. Marcis would run
another short track race for Gordon later in the season.

#1 is not correct. NASCAR still scheduled the Firecracker 400's at
Daytona on July 4th, regardless of the day of the week. This meant that
the 1972 and 1978 running's were held on Tuesdays. 1984 was a leap year
which saw the race go from Monday to Wednesday and NASCAR abandoned the
practice all together in 1988.
