This was Hamilton's third win of the year and his last for Petty Enterprises. 2. This was the very early days of cable tv, but this startup grew into one of the largest cable networks through the 70's. 60 Minute Cleaner also sponsored but Tele was huge on side of car, 60 minute was normal back qtr panel, same as all other WB rides for 70. 4. simonracer posted: 10.25.2014 - 10:08 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Bill Dennis replaced Lee Gordon for the race. 5. The winner was relative unknown Bill Ward driving a Mercury Cougar for Tom Pistone (possibly an ex-Bud Moore car). Jim Paschal was 2nd in a Javelin, followed by Harry Gailey, Bob Burcham and Gene Felton. Buck Baker was 11th, David Pearson 13th, Richard Childress 14th and Tiny Lund 16th. 7. His competitors didn't get much of a chance to see it, a blown engine since his car to the sidelines the opening laps. 11. Did all the drivers who boycotted the 1st race have to use rookie stripes in the race earlier in 1970? 12. Regardless of your experience, if it's your first start at the track, your car gets fitted with stripes. 13. possum posted: 01.05.2021 - 6:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @12 - that's not an invariable rule. NASCAR takes prior experience into account when deciding if a yellow stripe is appropriate. In Lorenzen's case, it was probably as much because he hadn't raced anywhere for close to 3 years before mid-1970, as much as because he'd not run Talladega before. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
