Had they run 280 laps it would have been exactly 100 miles. But they ran
281 for some reason

No one won more Grand National races at South Boston than Richard Petty.
And this was his last. He won five overall. I have some books that
detail the races. I will check it when I get home why it went 281 laps.
Quite often back then, someone lost count of laps and at the end the
winner wasn't really known because of a protest. This has a feel of
being one of those races. But that's just a guess. I'll try to remember
to check it and update your issue when I can.

The number of laps is almost always the lowest number to be over the
distance. 280 laps would be 99.96 miles.

Do you have a source for any of your dozens of posts about Wendell
Scott's alleged sponsors, and if you have access to footage or entry
lists or whatever from these old races, why don't you also give us the
sponsors of other drivers?
