the independent drivers were upset over $10,000 in additional money that
was given to top qualifiers in the race...most of that money ended up
with factory-backed teams and owners, leaving the independents high and
dry...so one by one they parked their cars in protest

i remember being at this race and the buzz in the stands as so many cars
dropped out. no one knew the reason until the race was over.

Dave Marcis in #30 ran the race in a winged Dodge Daytona. This was one
of only a very few occasions where the winged Chryslers were run on a
short track of less than a mile in length.

I think Marcis had wrecked his short track car and the Daytona was the
only car available

Bobby Allison's sponsor was Honda of Danville, not Coke.
This was before Honda sold cars in the US, so it's not as strange as it
seems now.
Also, he was driving a 1970 Dodge, not a 1969.
