A few interesting things were in the story. 1) Bobby Issac and his team boycotted the race because they said NASCAR's technical officials were giving preferential treatment to Richard Petty and his crew. 2) I am wondering if this ever happened before. The race was stopped for 25 minutes after 56 laps because of a funeral in a cemetery adjoining the .363-mile speedway. 3) The first caution came out during the first lap when Cecil Gordon got too deep in the first turn and spun out. 4) Dick Brooks brought out the third and final caution when he hit the wall between the first and second turns and dropped some debris. The points chase's top three after the event were: 1) Richard Petty 735 points 2) Bobby Isaac 690 points 3) James Hylton 658 points Isaac led the point race by five points entering the event. So it sounds like winning this race was worth 50 points. Probably the 50-49-48 system for this event. 3) Bobby Issac with 3.
