Chalkboards from the pits and hand signals by the driver were still the standard means of communication at the time. 10. Gene Riniker was second followed by Bill Foster, Jim Skinner and Dan Clark. 11. rob posted: 08.11.2016 - 3:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Fifth place Oliver is listed in some accounts of the race as driving an Oldsmobile. 12. Attendance was barely in five figures. 14. bduddy posted: 06.22.2017 - 10:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #13: Surely you mean Winston Cup specifically, right? This is a 200x Daytona 500 compared to much of the 50s and 60s. 15. Dorsal Fin posted: 04.24.2018 - 7:27 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Holman Moody Dodge??? 16. You might be confusing the race with the 1972 Winston Western 500, where he ran STP sponsorship in an all Petty Blue scheme (without the trademark dayglo red). 17. Dick Bown himself relieved by Cliff Garner on 98th lap (due to no floor insulation of the car and an unbearable temperature with the beginning of burns on the foots). After Garner's stint, Kevin Terris got back into the car on the 134th lap and finished the race. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
