Petty beat on Allison all night and at one point pinned Allison against the wall so hard that both cars came to a stop. Normally, after a race, the gate below the flagstand would be opened and fans could go meet drivers, autographs, photos etc. But this night the gate stayed locked. In plain view of the fans, Petty's bunch went to the pressbox, collected their winnings and high tailed it out of there. The fans booed them something terrible. I was never a Petty fan from that night on. 3. v2v1v5 posted: 04.06.2014 - 2:58 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Bobby Allison's #49 Ford Mustang is a 1969 model.Pictures on the net verify this.Allison and Petty had a notorious rivalry back then in which neither one of them gave an inch on the track, and each of them didn't personally care for the other.Over the years they each said that in a number of interviews. The untimely death of Adam Petty changed that. The Allson's wanted to be there for the Petty's after the deaths of their sons Clifford and Davey.Bobby said now they are friends...and Adam,Clifford, and Davey are looking down and smiling...R.I.P. 4. Somebody hit an electric pole and it knocked the lights out at the track. Does anyone know about or remember this? I'd like to know what year it was. Thanks 5. radkins posted: 12.18.2015 - 6:59 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) To Curious - that was 1964. Please see this link: https://t.co/tYFqJngWQw To Watched It - I was there as well. I recall the Petty/Allison duel and became a Bobby Allison fan that afternoon. Seems as if there was a pretty significant crash involving Neil Castles as well. Oh yeah, and one of the fans behind me had a bit too much to drink in the summer heat... I was 7 years old then and I'm still a NASCAR fan. 6.
