Dave Marcis had almost a sure victory until he started having car trouble, handing the lead to Tiny Lund and eventually finishing 16th with rear end problems. 2. Being the last race at hickory in the Grand National series it was a fun race because my step-father went to the race 7. RaceFanX posted: 12.29.2018 - 12:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @8 Due to decreased factory participation and other factors NASCAR allowed competitors from its Grand American series, which used pony cars as its racing vehicles, to race with the Cup guys at certain events to prevent short fields. Race winner Tiny Lund was one of these drivers, winning the race in his Camaro and going on to win the Grand American title in that series' final full season at the end of the year. Sometimes this led to win issues though as NASCAR's official records tend not to give Cup victory credit if the Grand American guys won (see the Bobby Allison controversy about his wins in a Mustang). 10.
