Note: Richard D. Brown qualified the car #91 but J.D. McDuffie
(initially DNQ) drove the car in the race.

Have seen numerous reports that Fred Lorenzen was slated to drive a Wood
Brothers Mercury, but totaled the car in qualifying.

From what information I got Lorenzen got hurt pretty bad in that crash
The Wood bros thought the wreck killed him It's a shame it would been
fun to see Fred in that 21

According to a Sports Illustrated article, Fred Lorenzen's crash was
really bad. A description I heard said his car clobbered the outside
wall with a force that got three of his four wheels of the ground and
then went full speed into the pitwall shearing off a section of the nose
of his car and causing him to "Barrell Roll"
